To any normal person she would simply be looking at herself in the mirror, but in her eyes her reflection looked much different. Therese, now half-concentrated on the road ahead of her, adjusted the rear-view mirror so she could see the eyes of her reflection. "So, after this, do we have any more life-threatening assignments from our glorious leader?" As she did so, she felt her mouth moving, but the voice wasn't hers. She pulled the car into the tunnel leading to the facility's parking lot.
Therese pocketed her wallet as the guard raised the security bar. "Okay yep, you're checked out and cleared for entry. The guard turned in his swivel-chair toward his computer and ran a check on Therese's name. "Yes," the woman replied, "I have a meeting with your administrator at 9:00 sharp." The woman reached into the pocket of her business suit, retrieved her wallet, and held the displayed ID out of the window. Can't let you in without a form of ID and a scheduled appointment."
A helmeted security guard wearing a bullet-proof vest over his blue shirt and black tie leaned out of the window of the security booth as the woman rolled down her window. The woman slowed down as she approached the security checkpoint up ahead, and halted just before the red-and-white bar that separated her from her destination. The driver, a beautiful blonde woman wearing thin-rimmed glasses who appeared to be in her early to late twenties, breathed a sigh of relief as the car slipped into the shade of the rock walls just as the sun came up over the horizon. At around 8:30 a.m., a lone vehicle sped toward the twisting canyons of a location known only to the few who deserved to know.
